Overview

Source: Bundaberg City Council Bundaberg Coral Coast is located on the picturesque Burnett River. Modern transport has positioned the City within a leisurely four hour drive or train trip from the State's capital, Brisbane or a mere 40 minute flight from Brisbane Airport. The area lays claim to the internationally renowned Southern Great Barrier Reef, Mon Repos Turtle Rookery, Bundaberg Rum and the famous aviator Bert Hinkler. Bundaberg City is the commercial and service hub as well as distribution centre to the region.

The region covers more than 2000 square kilometres and boasts diverse natural resources and facilities reflected in its offshore, coastal, riverine, city, rural and protected environments. It experiences one of the most equable sub-tropical climates in Australia. With established export markets in horticulture, seafood, livestock, food and agri-processing, sugar cane and education, the area has abundant investment opportunities for the discerning entrepreneur.

Bundaberg Coral Coast business and industry have a proven track record in responding positively to change and competition in the international marketplace. This success is founded in a continued commitment by all sectors to invest in world class infrastructure, intellectual capital and quality management systems, together with persistent research and development.

Bundaberg City has considerable investment potential in value adding industries due to the congenial mix of natural attractions, existing industry, raw produce, facilities and services.

Sited some 15km up-river from the coast, the City's proximity to the Bundaberg Port provides another lucrative opportunity for local businesses to provide essential services to vessels using the major east coast shipping route. In addition to bulk sugar output Bundaberg Port also handles general shipping cargo. This area is rapidly being recognised as an ideal fishing port. Red claw, prawns, eels and perch are sourced through well-established aquaculture farms.

Bundaberg is a first port of call for customs and quarantine clearing of small craft, being ideally situated on the eastern seaboard and with easy access from the Pacific Islands.

There is a range of local companies that are competing internationally and have established trade networks through their export activities. Bundaberg City Council, in conjunction with local business and the community, has established a Sister Cities Committee and mutual exchange programs with Settsu City, Japan and Nanning, China.

The City's regional service role, significantly lower cost of living and business operations, its consistent climate and well established transport services offer great opportunities for investors to capitalise on the growing international and major domestic markets to the north and south.
