Emerging Investment Opportunities

Food Related Opportunities

  • Value Adding
Source: WB2020 Detailed research of production systems in the region having regard to price, quality, delivery and reliability of supply indicate that there are good investment prospects in the following areas:
    • Cooperative packing and distribution centres for fruit and vegetables
    • Processing of fruit and vegetables to supply food service and manufacturing sectors
    • Sophisticated processing and development of niche fruit and vegetable products
    • Confectionery production
    • Macadamia nut processing

New and under-developed sectors include chicory, ginger, coffee and industrial hemp.

There also exists niche opportunities for engineering and manufacturing to support these emerging food related opportunities.

The Bundaberg Industrial Park Stage 1 Food Precinct and others have been developed to facilitate the establishment of these value adding opportunities. The Queensland State Government and Bundaberg City Council have constructed this precinct at a cost of $6.5M. It is strategically located to capitalise on the surrounding, supporting infrastructure and is well separated from residential areas - ensuring that the usual encroachment issues are minimised. Land is still available at the Precinct and further detailed information can be obtained by contacting Naomi Bartlett on (07) 4153 9933.
